Learn what size carry-on works for children, how to choose a durable suitcase, and why the Away Kids Carry-On is a smart pick for family travel.
Quick answer
The Away Kids Carry-On is sized for children ages 4 and up, fits under most airplane seats, and lets kids handle their own luggage confidently.
Why size matters for kids' carry-on luggage
A carry-on that's too big can be heavy for a child to lift or store, while one that's too small won't hold essentials. The Away Kids Carry-On measures 18.5" x 12.5" x 7.5" — compact enough for kids to maneuver but roomy enough for a few days' worth of clothes, toys, and snacks. It meets most airline carry-on size restrictions, so you won't face gate-check surprises.
Durability and ease of use
Kids can be rough on luggage. The Away Kids Carry-On features a hard-shell polycarbonate exterior that resists scuffs and dents, plus smooth-rolling wheels and an adjustable trolley handle. The handle has two height settings, so it fits both younger and older children without dragging on the ground.
Frequently asked questions about kids' carry-on luggage
- What age is the Away Kids Carry-On suitable for?
- It's designed for children around ages 4 to 10, depending on height and strength. The adjustable handle and compact size make it manageable for most kids in that range.
- Will the Kids Carry-On fit under an airplane seat?
- Yes, its dimensions (18.5" x 12.5" x 7.5") are within standard underseat limits for most major airlines. Check your carrier's specific size rules before flying. Measure your airline's underseat space if you plan to use it as a personal item.
- How much can the Kids Carry-On hold?
- It holds enough for a weekend trip: a few outfits, a jacket, pajamas, and small toys. The interior has a compression pad to keep items secure and maximize space.
- Is the Kids Carry-On durable enough for checked baggage?
- The hard-shell polycarbonate exterior is impact-resistant and can handle being checked, though it's best used as a carry-on to avoid damage from rough handling. If you check it, use a luggage tag and consider a protective cover.
- Does it come in different colors?
- Yes, the Away Kids Carry-On is available in several color options, so your child can pick a favorite that's easy to spot on the baggage carousel.
